MOLD MAKING AND CASTING FOR BEGINNERS

Cotuit Center for the Arts
Saturday, March 1st & Sunday, March 2nd.
9:30 AM-4:30 PM (with a one-hour lunch break.)
$265/$241 with CCFTA member discount

Plaster molds are a great way of making accurate copies of items in clay. They are a versatile tool for every level of clay artist. Some molds can be as simple as a single shape around which a clay dish is formed; others can be more complex and allow the artist to slip cast (pour liquid clay into) to form more intricate vessels or sculptures. Either way, plaster molds create a quick and consistent way for clay artists to replicate their work.

This workshop will introduce you to making plaster molds and using them as slump or hump molds or to slip cast from. Using pottery plaster, you will learn how to correctly make one- and two-part molds and then use them to recreate works. This class is aimed at beginners (including experienced artists new to reproducing their work) and teaches the fundamentals of plaster mold making and casting in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Tools and materials will be provided during class.
