Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill

The ability to mold and cast work is an incredibly useful tool in any three-dimensional artist’s toolbox. From dinnerware sets to fine art sculpture, mold making and casting allow the artist to reproduce their work quickly and accurately. The process of designing a mold, fabricating it, and then casting in a variety of media is a satisfying process in its own right, but it also opens up to the artist the world of editions in clay, plaster, resin, wax, bronze and a whole range of media.

This workshop will introduce you to making plaster molds and slipcasting (making copies from liquid clay) as well as making rubber molds for casting in plaster and a variety of other media. Through a hands-on approach, you will learn how to design one- and two-piece molds in plaster and rubber and then make casts from them in clay and plaster. This workshop is aimed at beginners (including experienced artists who are new to reproducing their work) and teaches the fundamentals of mold making and casting in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
